Editing

We have collected all the footage we need for our music, and have been editing it for the past couple of weeks. During the editing process so far, there are a few things we which have decided to add to the video that we think will help the video follow conventions, as well as help the narrative.

One of the first things that we added was a colour correct preset on Final Cut Pro called "Threshold". This makes the picture black and white as well as making it look more fuzzy. The idea came from researching videos from similar artists. A similar effect was used in the video for "The Final Calling" by Chris and Cosey, a side project of two of the members of Throbbing Gristle who make the song we are making a video for. Here is the video:

As you can see, the effect makes the video look more fuzzy, and we think that this will suit the song more. The effect we are using is black and white, and does not change colour like the one in this video. We are also using the effect almost as part of the narrative, as it indicates how the main character feels. It is used at the beginning and at the end of the video. At the beginning of the video, it is used as we see the main character walking down from his flat, and at this point the character will be feeling tired, so we thought we would use the effect to show his outlook. At the end of the video, it is used asfter the main character gets attacked and died, it is used at this point to indicate that life has left that character.

Another feature we decided to add to the video, was after the line "This is the world now". In response to the line, we added a short section after it that includes a series of cuts in very quick succession to the beat that show shots of the landscape. This is to imply that the world is like an industrial estate. This will also follow two of Goodwin's six music video conventions, the conventions being relationship between video and lyrics, and relationship between visuals and music.
